About Me

I am Head of the Digital Media Department at the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design at Drexel University and currently also serve as the College’s Interim Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies.

Prior to my affiliation with Drexel I held academic teaching, research and executive management positions at Vienna University of Technology, Austria, at the Department of Computer Science at Arizona State University, at Danube University Krems, Austria, where I also chaired the Academic Senate, and the University College of Teacher Education Vienna/Krems, Austria, for which I served as Rector.

My research focuses on the educational use of digital media and computer games and has been the starting point for the development of the physics learning game Ludwig, recipient of the German Game Developer Award 2011. More recently, I also started to get interested in research related to the production of immersive audio for VR/AR applications. Privately, I enjoy producing electronic music under the pen name Mike Gerhard.
